I was once part of Mes De Guzman filming in the Philippines in the year 2002. It's a long story how I met him and recognized him right away when I saw the commercial in TFC. I admire Mes as a director because he is very down to earth.
Being an extra in his short film was an exciting experience how filming works and tricks and everything. I've heard that the short film "Batang Trapo" (rag kids) was invited to be part of the selection at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France. I was not able to watch it when showed in UP Diliman though because at that time I was in Kuwait already. It was funny when we are filming that in Diliman because Cris Villanueva's former wife Aleck Bovick was in the hospital who delivered their first born baby at that time.
"Batang Trapo" was shoot in some squatters area in QC where we stayed almost all night for some shoots. It is a story of 2 brothers who are really street kids who wipe car windows when traffic light turn red to stop cars and ask for some change in return. As I said what I like most about Mes is being so down to earth where we eat together in the van. I am not sure if he can still remember me but just in case he comes to this blog I want to remind him that I was the one with your brother from Pampanga our family friend. Mes, I wish you good luck and a blissful directing career.
